Feed Me Fast
The City
Belfast is a great spot for a city break, or if you want a little longer you can depart from the centre and explore the rest of Northern Ireland. Where you’ll find rolling green hills, beautiful coastal walks, and rope bridges that would undoubtedly strike fear in the hearts of strong young men.
The city itself has a lot to offer and more than enough to keep you busy. With a, let’s just call it colourful recent history, the city is fresh on the tourist scene by comparison to its European equivalents. Bursting with friendly locals, it’s the type of place that you’ll feel instantly at home in.
There’s character and charm here that will make you erupt with a smile as you familiarise yourself with this small capital. Music fills the air as buskers pop up around the city, pubs overflow with jolly punters on busy summer nights, and then warm up in cosy cafes in the colder weather.
It’s a city that’s energy rumbles under the surface, always quietly vibrant. You can feel its desire to stretch its wings and grow out of everything it was once known for. To opens its doors and let everybody come in and enjoy its rebirth.
The Food
Let’s be honest, it’s not known as one of the gastronomy wonders of the world, and that may seem for good reason at first. But that doesn’t mean the food they do serve isn’t done exceptionally well. They naturally lean toward flavour and generosity over trendy and pretentious. Nevertheless to eat here is to take off all your fancy clothes, sit back in comfort, and just enjoy the simple things in life again.
It’s not a huge place. You can get around the centre on foot in no time and when you do, you’ll find newly opened artisan bakeries, delis, and cafes everywhere – a sure sign of a city and its people ready to prosper.
Although there are a lot of new spots (that could just as easily be found in your local hipster East London joint) the oldies still hold their own. Emphatically blasting out delicious food that, like the city and the country, has stood the test of time against the odds.
One thing the Northern Irish do well is feed their guests. Indeed there are no small portions in these parts. You’ll be well fed and well looked after. Especially by the places on our Belfast vegetarian food guide below.

Brunch in Belfast
“Lee Marvin” like a local?
Get yourself a wee a table at one of our suggestions below.
Neighbourhood Cafe 🌱🍗
If somebody said that we could only have brunch from the Neighbourhood Café everyday for the rest of our lives we’d be absolutely delighted. That’s how varied (but still tightly curated) their menu is. Basically you really can’t go wrong here. But the Turkish eggs are a real spicy, buttery treat like no other.
They also have some great cakes on offer to snack on with a coffee after your meal. It wasn’t too long ago that Belfast didn’t really have brunch spots like Neighbourhood. Thankfully, that’s all changing.
The Pocket 🌱🍗
An excellent brunch spot with an excellent menu. Firstly, it has much to offer the hungry vegetarian but likewise there are options for your carnivore friends and those stricter vegans. You can see from the menu how well thought out everything is and that behind everything is a wedge of passion driving this unique take on brunch. Their coffee is no joke either.
The veggie version of their chorizo brunch will more than hit the spot and will keep you going until dinner or further afield (unless you’re endlessly hungry like us). In any event, don’t miss this one.
Established Coffee 🌱🍗
Another trendy spot in the city, mostly known for their great coffee, they also offer a delectable and changing brunch menu. They’ve got milk buns filled with halloumi and soft egg yolks just waiting to burst. If you’re in the mood for something sweet, they’ll usually have French toast or something similarly addictive on offer.
It’s a casual place, no bookings. Just turn up, pray for a seat, and enjoy a great meal with that satisfying coffee.
Some Other Spots Worth Shouting About…
A varied menu and a perfect choice if you’re looking for something outside of the starchy, carby, Ulster fry (although they have their own special in place in our hearts).
If you’re after a more traditional breakfast or lunch, then this is a great option. Because sometimes you just want a veggie fry up or a scone with a good cup of tea.
Dinner in Belfast
The days go by fast when there is much to see and do.
Don’t let all that sightseeing get in the way of a good Northern Irish feast.
La Taqueria 🌱🍗
You might not expect to find good Mexican food in Northern Ireland, never mind great Mexican food but La Taqueria is here to surprise you, my friend. We’re not saying that if you’re a connoisseur of Mexican cuisine that this is the authentic taste of Mexico you’ve been searching for your whole life. But a good meal is a good meal and holy guacamole this is one tasty, flavourful, champion of a meal.
It’s just the one vegetarian/ vegan option for the tacos but it’s perfectly delightful in that that you won’t need another. Plus, they have all those sides that you shouldn’t miss out on either. Nonetheless everyone will go home full and happy from here.
Darcy’s 🌱🍗
After the full Belfast experience? Craving comfort food of epic proportions and quality local produce? Then look no further than Darcy’s. It is Belfast in a restaurant: friendly, generous, and lively.
Without a second thought we’d recommend the Vegetarian pie (with a side of garlic potatoes but that decision is up to you). Furthermore make sure to leave room for their desserts too. Vegan friends will also find something tasty here, but moreover your carnivorous friends will love you forever at the options on the table for them. A vegetarian food guide to Belfast best pick.
Zen 🍗
First Mexican and now Chinese food – isn’t this supposed to be a Belfast food guide you say? Well, if you’re like us you’ll want to dabble in the local cuisine but, mostly, you want the best food a city has to offer, and you’ll be open to trying a bit of everything.
There are a few veggie dishes on the menu but specifically the lightly battered aubergine really is a winner. Sticky, salty, sweet – just everything you’d want from great Chinese food.
*the menu isn’t clear on what’s vegan as it’s all listed as vegetarian.
More Deliciousness If You’re Not Satisfied…
A great sit down, relax, and enjoy a nice meal type of restaurant. Secondly it’s huge too so you’ll always get a table in a place with a great atmosphere.
If you’re hungry, Home is a brilliant option. It’s a nice restaurant with a good buzz and excellent menu for veggies, vegans, and carnivores. The true trifecta!

The oldest chippie in the city and unquestionably one of the best. You know those chips are fire if they’ve been around and beaten out the potato frying competition for that long! Just don’t expect shiny silverware and white tablecloths here.
BaoBun Street Food 🌱🍗
With a few branches popping up over the city this place is great for a quick feast that will surely see to those hunger pangs with tasty Taiwanese goodness.

Superb falafel at a great price. Add some halloumi and a side of baba ghanoush and you’re unquestionably going to have an outstanding time.
