The Experimental
Little Collins 🌱🍗
Little Collins is undoubtedly the spot for you if you love unexpected, unusual flavour combinations with each and every available dish. You won’t find the usual suspects of Eggs Florentine, avo on toast, or boring porridge here. It’s a brunch menu for the nonconformist.
Their two locations, one in west/ one in De Pijp, have slightly different menus. None better than the other – both equally delicious. Their take on Turkish eggs with the addition of pickles is a spark of genius. Their sourdough and flatbreads taste “just out of the oven” fresh and their desserts are sophisticated and endlessly moreish. Not the cheapest on the list but worth the cost for those beautiful ingredients.
The American
Staring at Jacob 🌱🍗
If brunch for you means “chicken” and waffles, buttermilk pancakes, and huge portions, then Staring at Jacob is your new favourite brunch restaurant. Their menu is filled with favourites that will make anyone feel they’ve transported stateside for a few hours.
You’ll notice superb options for vegetarians throughout. But special shout-out goes to the Veggie Rasco, with crispy, battered (non-soggy) cauliflower in place of fried chicken. And the All Around Veggie featuring: pancakes, eggs, halloumi, hash browns, plus more – a plate of food which is essentially three meals in one. A top brunch spot in the Dam.
The Crowd Pleaser
Bakers & Roasters 🌱🍗
Eggs, eggs, and more eggs. Eggs in all shapes and sizes and different presentations. Poached on top of some softened spinach and hot toasted sourdough. Fried and balanced upon a tortilla loaded with tasty toppings. Scrambled and folded into a pillowy pumpkin and salsa filled burrito. Bakers and Roasters is certainly a breakfast bonanza and a sure-fire place to please everyone in your group.
If you’re not an egg guy, no worries. Their short or high stack of pancakes might just be some of the best you’ve ever ate, at least in our opinion. Or the vegan tofu scramble will hit the spot if you fancy something different. Altogether a varied menu in a buzzing spot with a great atmosphere.
The Chilled
Coffee & Coconuts 🌱🍗
Want something a little more laid back and chilled out. Wide open spaces with the feeling of being by the beach whilst actually being smack bang in the middle of a busy city? Coffee & Coconuts is a top choice of both locals and tourists in the popular De Pijp area. If you’re one of those people that’s plagued with indecisiveness when it comes to choosing a meal, then the Full CC might be one for you – a taste of their best bits.
It’s a menu fit for any time of day with a corner for sandwiches if you lean toward the ‘unch’ side of Brunch. Fresh juices, homemade lemonades, and their own inhouse roasted coffee make this place a stellar all round Brunch option.
The Australian
Box Sociaal 🍗
Australian brunch in Amsterdam, lekker mate. Known for its fresh and vibrant food it’s a brunch so good it would make a 24-hour flight seem worth it. Luckily with Box Sociaal you don’t need to leave Europe for an Aussie style brunch.
Here you’ll find beautiful plates decked out with small details such as house pickles, homemade ketchup, and soy glazes to elevate each dish to new heights. Perched atop the especially delicious shakshuka is a marinated feta that softens and melts amongst the flavourful mess. The vegetarian options are as well considered and creative as the carnivores. A perfect brunch spot.
The Robust
Greenwoods 🌱🍗
Does portion size matter to you? Do you consider a big, hearty feed – the one and only appropriate way to start the day off in magnificent culinary splendour? Greenwoods is for you. They serve a robust veggie breakfast all day. A healthy serving of fresh toast with a gigantic scoop of double chocolate Stracciatella mascarpone (because why simply have plain mascarpone?). Plus, they have enough add ons and homemade sauces to satisfy even the hungriest of veggies.
With a few openings across the city their Keizersgracht location holds a special place in our hearts. When after a long queue we can sip our iced lattes and sweep up that spicy shaksuka all while overlooking the canal. An excellent choice for a good meal.
The Twist
Dignita 🌱🍗
Delicious, elegant, classic brunch food with a slight twist is what you’ll get at Dignita. Avocado benny’s but with the option to have them served on a crispy potato cake. American pancake stacks but with seasonal curveballs of fresh figs and lemon thyme syrup or cardamon, toasted almonds and sliced mango.
They have a few outposts citywide, and the locations are as stunning as the food itself. The menu is varied enough to satisfy depending on how hungry you are with a few reduced sized options (admittedly not our style). Also, you can book a table in advance. Always a relief.
The Minimalist
Scandinavian Embassy 🍗
The sweet, spicy, smell of oven fresh cinnamon buns will tickle your nostrils before you so much as reach Scandinavian Embassy. If you’re after something healthy but flavourful while knowing a conscious effort has been made toward sustainable eating, then this could be your new favourite brunch spot. Fair warning it’s a minimalist approach and that is reflected in the portion size and the menu. No problem if you’re happy to order a few sweet treats on the side.
As mentioned the menu is small and changes regularly, but they usually have a veggie option alongside the expected scandi fish dishes. Their pastries aren’t to be missed. A popular local hangout which might mean you have to queue a little but all while engulfed in that sweet cinnamon aroma.
The British
The Cottage 🌱🍗
Fancy a British style brunch while visiting the Dutch Capital? It can’t be denied that the British can put on a brunch like no other. Add their famous scones to the mix and you have yourself a true winner.
Although maybe not the meal you thought you’d have in Amsterdam the food at The Cottage is really tasty. With a huge, varied brunch menu that includes the always divisive marmite and cheese toast if you’re feeling adventurous, and a veggie (mushroom) sausage roll as a snack option, you won’t be disappointed here.
The Local
Gartine🌱🍗
If you love fresh local produce and excellent quality ingredients, then you will adore Gartine. Located centrally, just off shopping main street Kalverstraat, Gartine serves a seasonally changing menu with vegetables they harvest from their very own garden.
You can almost feel the food nourishing your body with every bite but it’s not so healthy that it lacks flavour. They use mouth-watering ingredients such as beautifully creamy cheeses, buttery veg, and truffle oils to make everything taste luxurious. They also use products from Slow Foods Ark of taste which you can learn more about here.
