Vegan Sushi Has Arrived

Vegan Sushi Bar

đź“Ť Amsterdam

Vegan Sushi – two words you never imagined you’d find bunched together in sentence. A food group and a food diet you were certain couldn’t align – and Vegan Sushi in Amsterdam no less.

A concept that upon hearing you would be forgiven for thinking to yourself – the vegans have finally gone too far. Vegan sushi had become a puzzle always missing a piece that made it feel truly complete.

Oh, but how wrong you were and just how big a delicious surprise you are in for. Vegan sushi is here, and it is indeed worth the wait. Especially if your only experience of veggie sushi so far has been the browning avocado maki with overly sweet rice available near the tills of your local grocery store.

MARVED Favourite

At the aptly named Vegan Sushi Bar in Amsterdam they take veganism to new heights. Their signature rolls are compounded with more than enough flavour to ensure you never want for the real thing. Each row of neat, tight, rolls a chance to explore a hint (at plant based versions) of the ingredients you may have missed from years of vegetarianism.

But the real superstar here, that really make these rolls unbeatable, is the texture. The unfathomable fake meat/ fish that either adorn the sushi like a crown or plump up the rolls from the inside. The missing piece of the puzzle we’ve been waiting for to make the vegan version on a par with the original. Perfectly crisp “shrimp” atop their Shrimp-less tempura Crunch or the silky but firm bite of their Classic Salmon.

Signature Sushi

Every one of the ten signature rolls on offer will satisfy a different flavour urge. The salty, sweet No Chicken Teriyaki; the fruity, spicy Tropical Spicy Mango; and the crispy, savoury Crunchy California Dream to name just a few of the highlights.

All this excitement and we haven’t even mentioned the equally important sides. Deep fried oyster mushrooms as an ethical alternative to fried chicken. Simple and tasty maki, inari, and gunkan if you want the classics.

We especially urge you not to miss an opportunity to try their vegan alternative to salmon which you can find in various menu items including the outstanding Flambé Salmon signature roll.

Never Say Never

If you’ve been vegetarian for a long time, there might be a few cuisines you’d given up ever tasting again. At least with any real gastronomical expectations. Sushi was on that list.

That’s what makes places like Vegan Sushi Bar Amsterdam undeniably special. After years of poor quality veggie alternatives, when a restaurant finally comes along quite as exceptional as Vegan Sushi Bar– you don’t know how you ever got by without it.

Two locations (for now) Centrum-Oost and Oud-West. What are you waiting for? Vegan salmon awaits.
