Best Falafel In Amsterdam to Try Right Now
Falafel for Everyone
The best part about falafel in Amsterdam and in general? Everyone can enjoy it. Vegans, vegetarians, and carnivores – the protein heavy, deep-fried, flavoursome balls could bring us all together.
Falafel, if done right, is a crowd pleaser. We aren’t talking about the squishy, overly dry assortment you buy at the local store and heat up in the oven. No, we’re talking freshly fried, crunchy clouds of taste heaven.
One of our favourite things about falafel is the mellowness of their flavour profile, a perfect base to build upon. Maybe with a creamy, nutty tahini drizzle or fresh herbs and amba sauce. Or if you’re like us – all of the above.
Depending on your favourite toppings you can take the humble falafel to new saucy or spicy lunchtime heights. Tuck it up in a warm wrap, hug it in a soft pita pocket, dip it naked, or even crumble it over some fries drenched in all your favourite sauces. But whatever way you have it – the only thing that really matters, is that you get it from an experienced and trusted falafel expert.
Not to go on and on and on about the merits of this wonderfood, We’re still compelled to add that although already both nutritious and delicious it’s also a reasonably priced option for those on a budget.
Falafel might not exactly be known as traditional Dutch food, but its most definitely become a favourite of Amsterdammers and tourists alike. Our Amsterdam falafel offerings are the best of the bunch – you will not be disappointed.
Dr Falafel 🍗
So good they’ve even gone and achieved a PHD in falafel, at least we think that’s an official doctorate… Super casual street food, freshly made with the all the usual toppings you’d expect from a good falafel vendor: hummus, onion, cabbage, pickles, garlic sauce. Very reasonably priced too, especially considering the high-quality ingredients you tear through with each bite. If only all street food tasted this good.
Maoz
Love falafel and love salad? Love the two of these combined even more? Moaz is a chain you can find all over the canal laden streets of Amsterdam – perfect when you need a quick falafel pick me up. Their falafel is fresh from the fryer, crunchy on the outside and vibrantly green and soft on the inside. Not only that but they also have a buffet style salad bar to top your pita or bowl with an obnoxious amount of tasty nutrients before drenching it in their collection of sauces (be warned the spicy sauce is SPICY).
Sir Hummus
Potentially the best hummus of your life but, of course, banging falafel too. Have it on the side to dip in that oh so silky hummus or cuddled in their unbelievably good flat bread wraps. A friendly spot with outdoor seating to boot for when you’re craving that falafel with a view of the canal basking in the Amsterdam sunshine.
Sababa
Sababas menu has an eye for delicious details that really accentuate their dishes: piccalilli mayo, harissa aubergine, sourdough in their pitta. That little extra thought and effort goes a long way with such stiff falafel competition. Sababa stands out as great option for middle eastern cravings with a healthy edge. The vegetarian options are practically endless on this menu but it’s hard to bypass the Saba classic. A pitta stuffed with all sorts of flavoursome sides, sauces, and salads. But starring yours truly…falafel.
Mana Mana
Fancy falafel in a sitdown restaurant environment where you can relax and enjoy those morish, crispy balls without worrying a seagull will snap the entire thing from your hands? Mana Mana is a restaurant serving delicious middle eastern specialties. On a menu of infinite highlights, we still recommend trying their mouth-watering falafel.
Sonny Falafel
If toppings are as important to you as the fresh falafels in your pita, then you’ll want to try Sonny Falafel located just off the famous Albert Cupy Market. They serve up a whole host of wholesome salads to compound the flavours of your falafel lunch. You can keep it healthy or make it messy with sauce options that outnumber any we’ve seen on offer elsewhere. It’s also a great option if you’re on the lookout for gluten free falafel.
D&A Hummus Bistro
Set to takeover Amsterdam entirely D&A Hummus Bistro already has three restaurants in the city. Popular for their hummus (obviously, it’s in the name) the falafel is another favourite. We love it surrounded in that halo like hummus for a velvety, crisp treat. Flavour and texture heaven.
Pita
You might recognise Pita from the popular Foodhallen but they now have a location on busy Spui in central Amsterdam. Their falafel comes served in one of their famous fresh pitas. But the real highlight here is the additional sauces you can add to give your falafel that extra intensity of flavour.
