Best Restaurants for Groups in Amsterdam

the canals of Amsterdam in summer

When eating with groups in Amsterdam, you shouldn’t have to give up taste for space.

Tall & Small

Narrow streets, narrow lanes, and even narrower buildings. Amsterdam might have a lot of things going for it, but space is not one of them. If you’re in the centre, you’ll notice the tall slim buildings here reach skyward like the locals.

With limited floor space many restaurants and bars find it especially difficult, or impossible, to accommodate groups.

We don’t mean the stag dos, hen dos, and the groups that come to Amsterdam to drink heavily and let loose on their morals – which are routinely turned away from certain establishments. But (civilised) birthday parties, catch-ups with old friends, business dinners, and supper clubs also struggle with group restrictions at their favourite restaurants.

Taste & Space

Often restaurants and bars will allow bookings up to a max of six. And if you’re a sociable person by nature that won’t even hold your besties. Nonetheless we also wouldn’t recommend showing up and hoping for a table. In a city this weighted with tourist foot traffic you don’t know when a quiet corner cafe on the water edge will suddenly have a line out the door.

We advise removing any additional unnecessary stress to your life by planning ahead with known spots which welcome groups and allow reservations.

Our options below let you reserve for a minimum of eight of your clan. More importantly, not only do they accept groups, but their food is outright delicious. Because we’d sooner suggest a cone of crisp frites enjoyed on a crowded bench than a bad meal in any restaurant.

Box Sociaal 🍗

A stellar brunch restaurant (a very popular one at that) with a relaxed vibe in a casual but stylish setting. They now also offer dinner service and (thankfully) you can book for both. They accept groups of up to ten people and, most importantly, the food here is outstanding. Tons of vegetarian options to delight you with. We especially recommend the veggie chicken burger for dinner and the shakshuka for lunch. Their cocktails aren’t too bad either…

Cannibale Royale 🍗

Firstly, yes, they do have vegetarian options. Secondly, yes, they are indeed worthy of your tastebuds for a night. Don’t let the name put you off, they cater to vegetarians even if they’d have you believe otherwise. In fact, they offer three different types of veggie burgers but other less obvious veggie options too. Such as the delectable cauliflower steak and wings. We can safely assume you’ll be happy with any of these options, but even happier when ordered with a side of their delicious mac & cheese.

Pizzeria Dope 🌱🍗

Pizza party! Nobody can turn down an invite for pizza. Pizzeria Dope serves some of the absolute best pizza in all of Amsterdam and they also take group bookings. Nothing moves too fast here (they actively encourage you to enjoy a drink while you wait). But if ever there was something worth waiting for it is perfect pizza. Lots of sauce, floppy Neapolitan crusts, and delicious toppings – win, win, win.

Eddy Spaghetti 🍗

Eddy Spaghetti is a favourite of locals out in Oost. Off the beaten tourist track and usual spots of Centrum, you’ll find the food here well worth the tram east. A lovely restaurant with crowd pleasing dishes including a bunch for vegetarians. The cosy, warm setting makes it the perfect location for spending time with your friends.

Jansz 🍗

If you want something out of the ordinary for a special occasion or, a casual splurge if you’re feeling swanky, then the much-loved Jansz should be top of your list. Above their beautiful, elegant restaurant await their Copper Rooms which accommodate groups in a most intimate and luxurious settings. Jansz is often cited on the best restaurants of Amsterdam lists, and rightfully so. The menu is filled with classic but exciting dishes. The restaurant itself is as stunning as its setting in the Jordaan.

Sherpa 🍗

Mid-week meal? Sherpa takes bookings for tables of 8+ during the week but limit this to 6 people on weekends (it’s a popular but small restaurant). Their Tibetan momos are worth ditching a few friends to get a table for 6 at the weekend. But our most loved menu item will forever be the paneer butter masala – always with a side of rice, and a peshwari nan. Heaven on a plate.

PRO TIP: Not drinking? Try their Indian lime soda for a salty, sour fizz.

De Kas 🌱 🍗

We’re grateful one of the best restaurants in Amsterdam also take bookings for groups. The main restaurant seats groups up to 12 and if you have many friends to sit and eat with then their garden room seats up to 20 of your favourite people. The place to go to impress those you love with some of the freshest, most delicious food available in Amsterdam. The restaurant is beautiful with giant windows emitting an outdoor/ indoor feel. Nonetheless, as picturesque as the restaurant aesthetic is, nothing here outdoes the food. It is the star. A tasting menu will take you and those you love on a food journey like no other.

De Biertuin 🌱 🍗

Beer and a burger? Or beer and a selection of food that goes excellently with beer? If beer is the focus of your evening out but it would be better for everyone if some food was eaten alongside it, we recommend De Biertuin. They accept large groups and have a few locations dotted around the city. Their burgers are crispy, smashed patty’s grilled with flavour – and their supernachos would feed an army.

Lotti's 🌱🍗

Lotti’s at The Hoxton is a chic but cool spot for those searching for a fashionable place to eat brunch or dinner. A brasserie style menu with the air of an East London local favourite, it’s perfect for friends who like a tipple alongside their main course with a strong cocktail menu on offer. An abundance of vegetarian and vegan offerings in their snacks, sharing plates, and sides menu make this a good crowd-pleaser for groups with differing diets.

Café Nieuw Amsterdam 🍗

Centrally located and in a stunning old building on Haarlemmerstraat you’ll find Café Nieuw Amsterdam. The perfect group dining restaurant for a classy evening. They offer a (slightly limiting) group menu for tables with 8 and over which features some of their favourite dishes from the main menu. Of course, with a vegetarian option for each course. The menu changes seasonally but dishes are always comforting and flavoursome. Also worth noting: the fries are some of the best we’ve ever tried.
