The Best London Hot Chocolate in London
Hot Chocolate Season
It’s the time of year when Londoners are once again on the hunt for the best in London hot chocolate. Summer has packed up and moved its sunny rays to the other side of the world and left the rest of us shivering into cooler nights and frosty mornings. Undeniably a bitter change of the season for some but a favourite time of the year for others. Not least because with winter comes one of the best things in life, hot chocolate.
We swap crop tops for (faux) fur coats, sandy beaches for pubs with fireplaces, chocolate milkshakes for hot chocolate drinks and the hot and sticky tube journey of the summer for the slightly more tolerable hot and sticky tube journey of winter.
Londons green parks and busy streets are crisp and beautiful this time of year, perfect for strolling around hugging a hot drink. Therefore it is the ultimate city to get your hot chocolate fix.
Besides there isn’t a café or a chocolate shop on the local high streets that haven’t concocted their own secret recipe, trying to be the best London hot chocolate. But what’s important here isn’t the sheer quantity of hot chocolate on offer but the exceptional quality available.
However not every warmed chocolate drink is created equal. We’ve all had our share of terrible sweetened, watery liquids unforgivably adorning the revered hot chocolate namesake.
However You Like It
Nevertheless London and MARVED has you covered. Sweet or bitter, milky or creamy, spiced or salty – you will find a hot chocolate to suit your individual tastes. Furthermore, in typical London style, you can enjoy a different taste experience at each place you visit.

Paul A Young Fine Chocolates 🌱
Perhaps the fanciest hot chocolate on our list. Courtesy of master chocolatier Paul A. Young. His small shop in a busy corner of Islington has a huge pot of the liquid deliciousness with numerous trimmings to choose from.
This isn’t a marshmallows and whipped cream type of place but a cinnamon, salt, and nutmeg sort of vibe. The hot chocolate itself is thick and rich. Very unlike the sweetened brown powder you’d find at the back of your cardboard and especially one for dark chocolate lovers.
Chin Chin Labs 🌱
Some people don’t consider a hot chocolate the real deal unless the cup is half sweet, delicious, chocolatey milk and half chewy, melty marshmallow. Chin Chin Labs has taken the marshmallow adornment of hot chocolate to the next level.
They plop a giant sugary blob of their handmade marshmallow fluff and toast it until its soft edges turn into a crispy, chewy delight. Definitely one for the gram. The hot choc itself is like velvet in your mouth. You’ll also be happy to hear that monstrous marshmallow is veggie.
Ottolenghi
Considering it’s from Ottolenghi, the king of flavour town, the hot chocolate here is very traditional – sweet hot milk with a hint of chocolate. Naturally because it was masterminded and born in the kitchens of one of the country’s best chefs it is perfectly delectable and will satisfy any hot chocolate enthusiast.
Dark Sugars Brick Lane 🌱
If you’re the type of person who demands freshly shaved chocolate shards in their hot choc (none of this powdered nonsense) then you will love local favourite Dark Sugars on, the permanently fashionable, Brick Lane.
They heat the milk and literally stuff the cup with shards of chocolate. White, dark, milk, a mix of all of the above depending on your tastes? The choice is yours and whatever your decision, it’ll be the right one. A most famous London hot chocolate.
Italian Bear Chocolate London
Messy chocolatey heaven is what you’ll find at Italian Bear Chocolate London. They drench the lucky cup in chocolate, just on the off chance you happen to forget what you’re drinking.
Moreover this one is definitely not for the faint-hearted. Dense and opulent, you most certainly won’t need more than one cup to satiate all your sweet cravings for the day
Knoops 🌱
Knoops holds a special place in our hearts as it’s a shop dedicated entirely to chocolate drinks. That’s right they’ve got milkshakes and cool chocolate milk in the summer and come winter, you guessed it, it’s hot chocolate for the masses.
Not just any hot chocolate either. You get to pick your preferred % of cocoa bean based on personal preference. And there you have it – your perfect hot chocolate. A spot not to be missed if you’re serious about this warm drink.
Hotel Chocolat 🌱
A traditional hot chocolate option from well-known chocolatier Hotel Chocolat. You’d hope given their popularity that they could knock out a good hot chocolate and they don’t disappoint. It’s also a great place to visit if you want a little twist on your drink.
Salted caramel, hazelnut, and mint are all great variations to try at least once. Conveniently they too list the % of cocoa to be expected which will help you to correctly choose the best option for you.
Mamasons Dirty Ice Cream
For those of you that have peaked too soon in the season overloading on the stuff and might crave something somewhat different for a very brief time. Mamasons Dirty Ice-cream could be the distraction you have been desperate for.
Its bright purple whipped cream and silky lilac milk made from ube is a vibrant and tasty enough replacement.
